T.J. Ford has yet to get a triple-double in his five-year NBA career.
In fact, the Indiana Pacers point guard can’t recall if he has had a triple-double at any level.
Ford was a rebound and an assist away from getting his first one in the Pacers’ 98-80 victory over the New Jersey Nets on Saturday.
Ford finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and nine assists in 37 minutes.
“Close but can’t seem to quite get there,” he said. “One day it will be my night and I’ll get there. I’m really proud of my rebounds.”
Ford was 0-for-6 from the field in the first half, but he picked it up in the second half, much like the rest of his teammates.
He was 5-for-7 and scored 12 points to go with five rebounds and four assists in the final 24 minutes.
“He’s unbelievably quick with the ball and he’s a hard matchup because of his ability to get places and cracks in the defense and get into the paint,” Nets coach Lawrence Frank said before the game. “He’s lightning quick.”
