Q and A with TJ

In recent weeks, TJ Ford has set up shop in Indiana and has been working out regularly at Conseco Fieldhouse. TJ has enlisted a number of other Pacer players to join him in order to start to turn the group into a cohesive unit. During his workouts TJ took a few minutes to answer questions from Pacers.com.

What does T.J. stand for?

Terrance Jerod.

You’re originally from Texas. What should we know about Texans?

We eat a lot. We’ve got good soul food.

You’re not the only T.J. moving to town, are you?

I have a three-year-old son, T.J. Junior. He’s been a joy in my life. He’s very energetic. We spend a lot of time playing in the pool and on the playground. When I’m washing my car, he pulls out his toy truck and mimics everything I do.

Is there anything greater than being a dad?

No. Seeing my son grow up has been better than any of my basketball accomplishments.

Who has been the biggest influence on your personal life?

Definitely my parents. They instilled the morals and values that make me who I am today.

What most excites you about your new team?

It feels good that this is something new. The organization wanted a change for the community. We have a chance to get back to the real meaning of basketball.

What drives you as a player?

I’m still determined to be one of the best point guards in the NBA. That’s my drive. As far as the coaching staff, style of play, and the players on this team, I think this is the best opportunity I’ve had to succeed.

Will we see you out on the town?

I spend a lot of time at home. I think people will occasionally see me in Best Buy buying DVDs. I watch a lot of movies.

What kind of teammate are you?

I’m a vocal leader. I try to keep everyone positive and involved. I think a good leader makes sure all his teammates are always on the same page, working towards the same goal—winning an NBA championship. So that’s what I do.

Larry Bird called to welcome you to the Pacers. What was that like?

I still have his message on my voicemail. I need to figure out how to put it on the computer. I feel honored.

Yes, I’m interested in updates!
