Ford tries to drive Pacers

Even though it was the opening of the preseason, T.J. Ford looked like he was ready to play.

The Indiana Pacers point guard scored seven points in the first quarter, one fewer than the other four starters combined.

“I’m preparing like it’s a real game for me, mentally trying to focus, trying to get good shots, trying to get my team off to a good start,” Ford said after the Pacers’ 105-71 loss to New Orleans on Wednesday night at Pepsi Coliseum, the home of the original ABA Pacers.

“We had a lot of different combinations, some guys not used to playing with others and that’s part of it when you have a lot of new people on the team.”

Q and A with TJ at media Day

While at the Pacer’s annual media day TJ answered questions on AM 1070 the Fan. The transcript follows:

MG: It’s finally media day, how do you feel?

TJ: Good man, it’s the best time of the year. The season is about to kick off…just getting all the attention and seeing how excited everybody is at the beginning…I’m just ready to get started.

MG: I’m going to do you a favor and not talk about your back during this interview…so let’s talk about your neck…(laugh)

Okay, just kidding…I know you’re feeling good, you’ve been healthy the last couple of years. I’m sure you’re just excited to get going. Preseason is right around the corner and I know you’re ready to go.

TJ to visit local elementary school Tuesday

TJ Ford will visit IPS School 99 tomorrow to make a donation to the school’s uniform closet for those students in need, as well as to spend some time with the kids.

From 1:30 to 2:00 p.m., Ford and IPS Superintendent Dr. Eugene White will meet with students in the school’s gym. TJ will speak with the students about teamwork, school pride, hard work and treating others with respect while emphasizing the importance of working together for school and student success on the ISTEP test. TJ will also make a financial donation, provide 200 tickets to the Pacers’ Opening Night game against Boston, Nov. 1 (students will earn these through hard work, attendance and good behavior) and has teamed…

Q: What do you think about NBA players leaving and going to play in Europe?

A: I think it’s a good thing from a professional standpoint and also from a business standpoint. It’s given us an opportunity to tap into both markets.
