TORONTO – In his first practice back in Toronto since his scary neck injury, with most of his teammates already off the floor, point guard T.J. Ford went through an extensive one-on-one scrimmage against lengthy swingman Jamario Moon.
Ford concedes at least eight inches to Moon, so understandably, he got a lot of his shots sent back in his face.
But after the rehabilitation routine that Ford had to go through in Houston — crab-walking up stairs, endless running, and all — this was actually pretty fun.
“Practice,” Ford said with a smile, “is easy.”
After a much-deserved day off after his first game in nearly two months, Ford returned to the floor yesterday and seemed to relish being there.
He even stuck around to heave three-pointers with Jason Kapono, as the latter prepared for the NBA’s three-point contest next weekend.
“I feel great,” Ford said, when he finally came off the court. “The injury is behind me. I think that’s why I’m back with the team. All the training I did that helped me mentally and physically to compete in the NBA, I think I had those things.
“I think my instincts are still there.”
